How To SEO Silo An Affiliate WordPress Website For High Rankings

There has been a lot of talk lately in the internet marketing community about website siloing. There has also been a lot of confusion.

I wanted to get this out to help better explain silo architecture and show you how to properly silo your affiliate WordPress website to get a powerful SEO advantage over the competition!

But quickly…what is website silo architecture?

Website Silo Architecture

I’m going to keep this post as simple as possible. So if you are looking for complex and advanced theory…this might not be the right post for you.

The most basic definition of a website silo is a structure that keeps relevant information grouped in a way that makes it easier for search engines to read.

I like to think of it as website categories that contribute to a website’s overall theme.

For example, if you have a website about Fruit, one of your categories might be Apples. The category Apples contributes to the overall theme of Fruit.

To keep the flow going, within the category Apples, you will have supporting posts. You may have a posts on Red Delicious, Honeycrisp, and Fiji apples.

They support the category theme of Apples. This silo linking structure might look like this:

How To Silo A Website

You see, search engines love proper URL structure. They know it contributes to a better user experience.

A visitor of the above example website will be able to naturally flow between topics.

If they are interested in fruit, they could easily see different categories of fruit, and then within each category, there is relevant information the can learn about each specific fruit.

There is also a behind the scenes effect taking place as well that helps contribute to search engine rankings.

The SEO Effect of Website Silos

When you type in a keyword or phrase into the search bar, you are expecting to get search results related to your topic.

Well the job of the search engine is to go out and find the most relevant information to return.

Now imagine if you were searching about apples, because well, you like apples.

Wouldn’t you think the search engines would love to provide you a site in the search results that talks about apples, and has several pieces of content related to apples?

Wouldn’t love to see such as site? You’d be in apple heaven!

Alright….enough of this craziness. Let’s get serious again.

By having your website structured appropriately, where each piece of content relates to a theme or category, it is a search engine’s dream.

You create such a high concentration of relevancy throughout your website it makes it easier to rank for your related categories and topics.

This also makes your website easier to rank with less backlinks.

I have silo’d affiliate websites that rank page 1 for all of the category pages and the overall website domain for my keyword phrases with very little backlinking.

How do you like them apples?

This is good to know when you are building out a website. So now how do you do it?

Let’s talk about how we could structure a website silo style for affiliate marketing.

How To Silo An Affiliate Website

I am going to talk about 2 different silo setups for affiliate marketing. There are of course many other ways you can do it.

Try different things out and see what works for you.

Authority Affiliate Niche Websites

The first method is one I would use for authority affiliate niche-specific websites.

These are sites where I’m diving into a niche of an overall category, but I want to dominate it across a variety of related topics.

For example, say I am interested in Mobile. It is a trending subject and there are tons of opportunities to monetize for affiliate income.

To drill down, I want to create a website on the Mobile App niche. Drilling down further, I want to build my website around Android Apps.

This is a perfect opportunity to create silos to make my content more user-friendly and gain authority in the rankings.

By simply using the Google Keyword Planner and related search suggestions, I may create the following silo categories:

Android Apps Development
Android Tablet Apps
Android Phone Apps

From there I could research each of these categories and get 3 to 5 other relevant keyword phrases I would turn into pages to support each of these specific silos.

You can monetize specific pages, and/or the entire silo category.

For example, maybe in the Android Apps Development you could promote an app making course on the category page, and in each supporting silo page.

Or each supporting silo page could promote a unique product or training course related to making Android apps.

The Launch Jacking Silo Website

As you know from this blog, I am a huge fan of Launch Jacking.

Well did you know that you can use silos to your advantage in promoting product launches?

Maybe you like promoting launches in the internet marketing niche.

Well you could them your overall website for internet marketing, and easily create a silo for each product you want to launch jack.

For example, maybe you would have the following silo structure:

Launch Jacking Website Silo

You would build huge relevancy for each product, which can easily translate into higher search engine rankings for the launch.
